Launch of Laundry Expansion by Rotary Club of Pudu
Wednesday, 22 October 2008

In October 2002, Rotrary Club of Pudu helped start PERKOBP's Laundry Training Centre, recognising the benefits to persons with learning difficulties if they could be trained in other vocational skills besides packaging work. So far, 8 of our trainees are capable of handling the various stages of work in a laundry operation.

Rotary Club of Pudu came to our aids again in 2005 when the laundry work volume far exceeded the equipment capacity by donating us one unit each of washer and dryer.

This year, the Rotary Club of Pudu has again come forward to help PERKOBP realised its need to expand their Laundry Training Centre. Working under a matching grant with Rotary International PERKOBP was giving 1 unit of industrial washer and 2 units of inustrial dryers amounting to RM76,500.00.

On 22 October 2008, we were grateful that Cik MemeZainal Rashid, Ketua Pengarah Kebajikan Masyarakat Malaysia had taken

time off from her busy work schedule to witness the launch of our laundry expansion sponsored by Rotary Club of Pudu.

Immediate Past President, Mr K U Rajah said during the launching ceremony “Rotary Club of Pudu is indeed very happy to associate with an NGO like PERKOBP who is doing very good work for the learning disabled”. “We hope hotels and related industries will support PERKOBP with more laundry jobs” continued Mr K U Rajah who believes that all parties are winners in this arrangement.

After the launch, Cik Meme and her entourage together with the Rotarians were given a guided tour of the various activities in the centre.

We are very grateful to Rotary Club of Pudu. With the increased capacity, our Laundry Centre is ready to take on more jobs which would in turn benefit our trainees. We hope hotels, spas and clubs can consider giving us some of their laundry contracts.
